Kalkan is an old fishing town and the only safe harbour on the Mediterranean coast between Kas and Fethiye in the Antalya Province. It is famous for its white washed houses and sloping, cobbled streets leading from the centre of the old town to the horse-shoe shaped harbour and sea.
In recent years, Kalkan has become THE tourist destination of the area and is now home to upmarket boutique hotels, restaurants and luxury private villas. The town itself remains unchanged: traditional and quaint, however, its tourists and inhabitants have changed in recent years with Kalkan now a sought after favourite for sophisticated British and European travelers, many wanting to own homes here. It is known as one of the best tourist destinations, especially for romantics and families not wanting to holiday too far away from their European home bases.
